A happy FitBit owner once again

A week or so ago, I wrote a post about how I had managed to accidentally wash my FitBit, and how it had died after saying “I love you Jenni” (that was THE most distressing part of the whole situation). Well I no longer have the FitBit blues!

My friend Kerri suggested contacting FitBit and asking for a replacement, and so I did! 4 emails and 3 days later, the FitBit team emailed me to say that they would give me a complementary FitBit One to replace my broken FitBit Ultra! I still can’t believe it now that FitBit would give me a new FitBit free of charge for a situation I got myself into, and not only that but they would give me an upgrade because they no longer stock FitBit Ultras! I seriously cannot fault FitBit’s customer support team, they aren’t many words to describe how fab they are!

The only hard decision I had to make was the colour of FitBit I would like, I was given the choice of black or burgundy. I was all for the black FitBit but after speaking to a few friends and Mum pointing out that we would be able to see the burgundy one more easily, I went for the burgundy FitBit.

On Monday, my FitBit One was delivered! I set it up as soon as I got home so now it is linked to my account!

I also charged it! I only charged it for 3 hours and it had full battery… And full battery when you are going to bed means you can track your sleep without worrying if your FitBit will run out of battery during the night! I always like to track my sleep, and I seriously did miss it when I didn’t have a FitBit to track my sleep with… Here are last nights Sleep Stats!

The only think that bothers me about FitBit’s sleep tracker is that if you are lying still, it interprets that as you being asleep… So last night it looks like I fell asleep at around 11PM but in actual fact it was more like 12.30PM, or at least 12.27PM was the last time I looked at the clock before I fell asleep. But seriously, can I fault that? NO WAY! What tracker is going to be able to differentiate between you lying still and falling asleep? Not any I have come across!

Today, my FitBit has encouraged me to walk further, seeing as though I do actually know how far I am walking now! And although I am paying for it tonight with a sore, and slightly swollen knee, it was well worth it!

Thank you to everyone at FitBit! I really appreciate this!

The FitBit blues

Last weekend was a very busy weekend for me, I had my Granny, Aunty and Uncle visiting from Scotland which meant I had to move out of my room (to give it to my Gran) and sleep on the floor in my parent’s bedroom. My Dad was also coming home from a business trip on the Saturday and leaving on the Monday which made everything a bit more hectic than it already was.

Because I had essentially moved into my parent’s room, there wasn’t a lot of places for my clothes so I ended up folding the clothes I had been wearing that day (so I could put them in the washing basket the next morning) and also having the clothes for the next day folded on the floor too.

That weekend I also lost my fitbit, normally I take my fitbit off when I go to bed and put it on my desk, but last week I couldn’t use my desk so I put it on the side table in the room I was sleeping in. Anyone who knows me, knows I am a “wriggle monster” to say the least and so when I woke up in the morning my fitbit wasn’t on the side were I had left it, so I just presumed I had knocked it off in my sleep.

Since then I have spent the last week looking for it, with no luck until today. Actually I don’t think you can call today lucky. I found my FitBit in the washing machine, so either I thought I had taken it off my trousers but actually hadn’t or I picked it up when I was putting the dirty washing in the washing basket.

I was pretty sure that my FitBit wouldn’t work but I thought I may as well have given a go. AND IT WORKED! Or at least for a little bit it did, it displayed one of FitBit’s motivational messages “I love you Jenni” (which made me feel so guilty!) then displayed “Fitbit 4.14” (the software code) and then it said “Off”… Seriously, OFF?! There isn’t a “On” button! My FitBit ultra only has one button to scroll through all the information, and to switch on sleep/active mode so how on earth can I switch it on? Apparently pressing the button doesn’t work. I am so upset! I haven’t even had that FitBit for a year yet, and apart from drowning it, it hasn’t even got a scratch on it!

My friend, Kerri, suggested asked FitBit for a replacement, and I have sent them a message via their site asking if it would be possible but I highly doubt that they will replace my FitBit since it was my fault that the FitBit got washed. And so I am potentially in the market for a new FitBit. Kerri and I were discussing some of our options on MyLungsMyLife’s Facebook page, and while I am totally for the new FitBit Force (a lot like the Flex but also shows you the time etc) Kerri did point out that it is not as discrete as the One or the Ultra in formal situations etc… I also have my eye on the Withings Pulse which is a lot like the FitBit ultra, except it can also take your pulse. However, I think I would have to look into how accurate that is. Decisions, decisions, decisions ey?

12 of 12 – March 2013

So this is my second 12 of 12… I’m still not very good at getting the pictures throughout my whole day but this 12 of 12 summarises my day pretty well I think.

7.12am – been up for about 10 minutes so thought I’d see what my sleep efficiency was for last night. I’m quite proud of my 88% sleep efficiency.

7.46am – took a short cut over the field to get to the pavement instead of going around the field… Wish I had taken the longer route, my feet were freezing and covered in snow.

7.58am – stood at the “bus stop” which consists of a pole and a sign… I can shelter from the weather under a tree.

10.51am – finally made my self a to-do list for the day… Contains all the necessary tasks I need to do. It’s a feeble attempt to become organised but it works pretty well. That was the original version…. By the end of the day it contained about 20 or so tasks.

7.13pm – time for some chemistry revision! I’ve started to revise alcohols, FUN! (not).

8.47pm – just finished doing some psychology on Bennett-Levy and Marteau’s study on animal phobias. I’ve done this study to death now… Looking forward to a new study.

10.03pm – 3 material things I could not live without. My neck cushion (should be for travelling but I use it for studying), my heat wrap (heat it up and stick it wherever it hurts… It’s a slight issue when more than one joint hurts but then my joints just have to take turns. I should really invest in a second one of these). And my soft, cuddly blanket (when I’m sore and my asthma is playing up its nice to find some comfort and warmth).

10.13pm – I’ve walked up 14 flights of stairs today according to my fitbit. Quite amazed how I’ve done, especially with my ankle and hip flaring.

10.24pm – I am not impressed with my peak flow this evening… Only managed a meagre 280, thats even less than this morning’s 290. Hopefully tomorrow will bring some 300’s.

10.32pm – getting ready for bed. This is what I put my fitbit in so it can measure my sleep efficiency… I’m pretty sure I’ll have a good nights sleep since I am absolutely knackered.

10.37 – Woo symbicort… Only 60 doses left… Now to decide if I refill my prescription or if I go and see my asthma nurse instead.

10.46pm – My calendar, nothing going on tomorrow but on Thursday it’s World Kidney Day so I’m wearing my Kidney Research UK t-shirt in support.

So that was my 12 of 12 for March 2013… I do believe that my next post will be on Thursday and it will be about World Kidney Day and why it means a lot to me.

Fitbit came! … And I was right about that flare…

I posted in January about me being determined to get fit this year and I also said I was contemplating getting a fitbit, which is a pedometer that also monitors how well you sleep and basically helps you loose weight if you wish to do so and get fit. It’s got a really snazzy website which basically tells you when you are most active and your sleep efficiency etc.

Anyway I decided that id just go out an buy one so I did, ive only had it a day but I’m really loving it and I’m going out of my way to do more walking and exercise which is fab! I bought the blue one because I prefer blue to a pink colour bit thats just personal preference.

So that is my fitbit, you cant tell its the blue one because the inside of the clip is blue, ive posted the picture of the clip just below:

Anyway I’m really impressed with it so far and I am really feeling motivated to go and do more exercise.

However, it’s all good and well me saying I want to do more exercise but I was right about the flare comming on. In my last post I said that my wrists and elbow were really sore, and my elbow being sore is a sign that my joints are going to flare… which they have.

Both my hips, both my knees, my left ankle, both my wrists and my neck are all flaring which is quite a problem when I’m wanting to do more exercise but the pain makes me physically sick so it’s hard to even lush through it. All I want to do is just lie down and go to sleep but I am determined to get at least 5,000 steps today, even though it is probably not a wise decision.

I’m hoping thaty xray results from my ankle will shed a bit of light on my ankle pain so at least I could start treatment on that asap.

So I will update you all tomorrow after I get my results.
